The ITU has announced dates for the 2015 Para-triathlon season ©Getty ImagesThe International Triathlon Union (ITU) has confirmed a number of key dates on the Para-triathlon calendar for 2015 as the sport prepares to make its Paralympic debut at Rio 2016.

According to current dates, the seasonis due to start in London, South Africa with the 2015 East London ITU World Para-triathlon Event on March 1.

The world's top Para-triathletes then head to Australia's Sunshine Coast on March 13 before Madrid, Spain on May 10.

Then it's back to Yokohama, Japan on May 16, following the success of the inaugural event earlier this year.

Further events in London on May 30; Besançon, France,on June 7; Iseo – Franciacorta, Italy, on July 19; Detroit, United States, on August 15 and 16; and Edmonton, Canada, on September 5 and 6 will also take place in what is proving the most action packed season for Para-triathlon.

An event on August 1 and 2 will also be held in Rio de Janeiro, which will serve as a test event to the Paralympics the following year.

The season is scheduled to end in Chicago on September 15 to 20 in the flagship ITU World Para-triathlon Championships.

ITU expects to add at least two races to the calendar in the coming weeks with interest from cities in Europe and Australia.

In addition to these worldwide competitions, three Continental Championships have also been confirmed.

Penrith, Australia, will host the Oceania Championships on January 1, followed by the African Championships in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt on May 10 and the European Championships in Geneva on July 10.

Although only three Continental Championships have been confirmed to date, the ITU expects events to be held on each continent across the 2015 season.
