Butler qualified for the final of the event in eighth place but blew away her competition shooting 206.2 in that final to secure the top spot ahead of silver medallist Josef Neumaier of Germany and bronze medal winner Veronika Vadovicova from Slovakia.

Fellow Briton's Stephen Robertson and Lesley Baldwin finished 9th with a score of 583 and 16th with 573, respectively, in the same event.

Meanwhile, a British team of Butler, Robertson and Benjamin Jesson also won the team gold medal.

"We fielded a smaller team of just four 50m rifle shooters in this competition, mainly because there are no 50m rifle events at the IPC Shooting World Cups in Poland, Turkey and Great Britain so it was good competition experience for them," Disability Target Shooting Great Britain (DTSGB) performance director and head coach, Pasan Kularatne, said.

"I am pleased with the team's performances, especially Karen, who finished the qualification round in eighth place and was able to come back to win the gold in the finals.

"This shows her determination and experience as a small bore shooter.

"There are no carry forward qualification scores to the finals in the new final format and everybody starts from a zero score, which means anything could happen and it is really exciting."
