Algeria were the only African team to compete at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, where they reached the quarterfinals, and were always firm favourites to get the better of their regional opposition.

After sweeping through the pool stage undefeated, they duly dispatched closest rivals Egypt 12-2 in a one-sided final in which Mokrane Mohamed was the hero for the Algerian team with a stunning nine goals, while Labri Abdel also excelled in scoring the remaining three.

There was some consolation for the Egyptians with the news that they, along with Algeria, have qualified for the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Goalball World Championships to be held in Espoo, Finland next year.

This was decided earlier on the final day of action after two one-sided semi-finals, where Algeria demolished Morocco 10-0, while Egypt was nearly as convincing in a 11-1 victory over Rwanda.

Morocco avenged Rwanda for their round robin loss earlier in the week by defeating them 13-3 in a third place playoff match that was closer than the scoreline suggested.

There was some disappointment, however, for the host nation Kenya, who were forced to forfeit their fifth place playoff against Ghana due to injuries.
