esp - aust 021 small picAugust 8 - Brazil's seven a side footballers stunned the reigning Paralympic champions Russia with a 2-0 victory in the semi-final of the Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association (CPSIRA) Intercontinental Cup in Barcelona to set up a final against London 2012 runners-up Ukraine.

After a tense opening where there was little between the two sides, the aptly named Ronaldo Souza opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Eduard Ramonov doubled the Brazillian advantage in the 36th minute.

Russia were subsequently reduced to just five players on the pitch at one point late in the second half after Alexander Kuligin received a red card.

Brazil have now avenged their semi final defeat to the Russians at last September's Paralympic Games where they eventually finished in fourth place after losing the bronze medal playoff to an Iranian team who are not participating this week.

The final showdown between the two unbeaten Brazilian and Ukranian teams should be a pulsating battle between two evenly matched sides who drew 1-1 in the group stage at London 2012.

Ukraine will begin as marginal favourites after sweeping aside Ireland 9-0 in the first semi-final but will be taken nothing for granted against a Brazilian team who have already ousted the number one seeds.

Elsewhere, in the classification matches for the lower positions Australia defeated Spain 3-0, Argentina beat Scotland 6-3 and England cruised past Northern Ireland 12-1.

Argentina will now face the Netherlands for fifth place, the United States will take on Scotland for seventh and Russia will attempt to restore their fortunes against Ireland in the bronze medal match.

The final is due take place on Saturday (August 10) at 19:30 local time.
