The 23-year-old Smith, who was part the team that claimed victory at the Beijing 2008 Paralympics, was in imperious form in Norway as he went through the tournament unbeaten to claim victory in the BC1 classification.

Smith's gold medal success was followed by a victory for Dan Bentley, who in the absence of compatriot and world number one Nigel Murray overcame a strong field that included reigning World Cup champion Abilio Valente of Portugal.

Britain's final two medals came from Scottish brothers Stephen and Peter McGuire, who actually met at the semi-final of the BC4 classificatio.

Stephen claimed victor over his sibling as but could only secure silver in the final as his lost out in a tight game with Jose Maria Dueso of Spain.

Peter went on to take bronze in his third place match as he comfortably defeated Domingos Vieira of Portugal.

The event was particularly important for Britain as it was their last opportunity to improve their world rankings and subsequently qualify for the individual events at the London 2012 Paralympic Games where the likes of Smith and Murray will be major gold medal contenders.

At the 2012 Paralympics, Boccia will take place at the ExCel in London's Docklands.
