Evans (pictured above, left), a double world champion in the men's open compound bow category, competed at Beijing 2008 and admitted he was delighted to make the team following several injuries.

"I'm really pleased and excited about returning to the Paralympic Games," he said.

"Last season was a bit rough with some untimely injuries, but things are definitely looking up this season and for the Paralympics."

Joining Evans in the men's compound bow open category at London 2012 will be first-time Paralympian Bob Hudson (pictured above, right), who captured a silver medal at the 2011 Parapan American Games in Guadalajara.

Lyne Tremblay (pictured below), a 2008 Paralympian, is also named for London 2012 where she will compete in the women's recurve bow ARW2 category while Karen Van Nest will be competing in her fourth consecutive Paralympics but her first as an archer having attended Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing2008 as a pistol shooter.

Van Nest will compete in the women's compound bow open category at this summer's Games.

Rounding-out the Canadian archery contingent is international veteran Norbert Murphy who will be competing in his third Paralympic Games.

Murphy has shown good form in recent years, capturing the bronze medal at the 2009 World Para-Archery Championship, and he will compete in the men's compound bow ARW1 category in London.


The five archers for London shows an increase on the three who competed at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games and Gaétan Tardif, the Chef de Mission for Team Canada at the Paralympics, said it was a big boost.

"I am really happy to see the fantastic growth in Paralympic archery with a record number of athletes being nominated to the London 2012 team with real chances of medals," Tardif said.

Vladimir Kopecky, archery's team leader for the Paralympic Games, also praised the strength of the team selected.

"I believe we have a very strong team and that we have a real chance to be on the podium," Kopecky said.

"We are going to the Games to do Canada proud."

The archery competition for the London 2012 Paralympic Games is due to take place at the Royal Artillery Barracks from August 30 to September 5.
