Sarah Storey_Sept_5September 5 - Sarah Storey continued her phenomenal form at the London 2012 Paralympics as she claimed her third gold medal of the Games with victory in the time trial C5 on the first day of the road cycling event at Brands Hatch.

The 34-year-old (pictured above) from Manchester, who has already won two gold medals in the Velodrome, dominated the competition to win in 22min 40.66sec, finishing a massive 94 seconds ahead of nearest rival Anna Harkowska of Poland.

Kelly Crowley of the United States took bronze nearly another minute behind Harkowska as Storey retained easily the title she won at Beijing in 2008.

This means that Storey, who was born without a functioning left hand, now has a collection of 10 Paralympic gold medals, having won five golds in swimming before switching to cycling ahead of Beijing, where she claimed two victories.

"I've spent so much time on the road this year and only went on to the track three weeks ago," said Storey, who will be targeting a fourth and final London 2012 gold medal in the road race tomorrow.

"Having watched the success of the Olympic team on the road, with Bradley Wiggins winning the time trial and Chris Froome getting the bronze medal, I just wanted to make sure I added my name to that list of success.

"With the track I've done so much but I love riding on the road and when the time trial's done, well there's no greater feeling."

Elsewhere, Welshman Mark Colbourne (pictured above) won his third medal of the Games with silver in the C1 time trial.

The 42-year-old finished 12.94 seconds behind Germany's Michael Teuber, the same man who beat him in the 2011 World Championships, while China's Zhang Yu Li, took bronze almost a minute behind the winner.

"I'm proud of what I've done; I'm catching Teuber month by month," he said.

"I tried to pace it as best I could.

"I was probably 30 seconds quicker on the first lap than I wanted."

There was also glory for Ireland's Mark Rohan, who secured his country's sixth gold medal of the London 2012 Paralympic Games by winning the men's H1 individual time trial.

The world champion clocked a time of 35:41.54 to take the gold by a clear 11 second margin over second placed Koby Lion of Israel with Austria's Wolfgang Schattauer taking bronze a further 11 seconds back.

"I am delighted with my result," said Rohan, who was paralysed from the chest down in a motorbike accident in 2001.

"There was a lot of pressure on me to perform today but I managed to hold it together."

There was further success for Ireland as the tandem of Catherine Walsh and Fran Meehan took bronze medal in the women's individual time trial B.

The Irish duo clocked a time of 35:29.56 to secure their place on the podium with the Netherlands pairing of Kathrin Goeken and Kim Van Dijk (both pictured above) taking gold in 35:02.73 and the New Zealand tandem featuring Phillipa Gray and Laura Thompson taking silver with a time of 35:07.68.

It is the second medal Walsh and Meehan have won at London 2012 after they secured a silver medal in the individual B pursuit final at the Velodrome.
