It proved to be another commanding win for Kmochova, who had already sealed the super combined, super giant and downhill titles, as she finished 2.73 seconds ahead of nearest challenger Melissa Kock of Austria.

Another Austrian, Beatrice Brunnbauer, claimed the bronze medal.

The Czech star was by far the quickest after both runs as she clocked 1min 10.45sec in her first attempt, before she stormed to the Deaflympics crown with a blistering 1:08.81 in her second run.

In the men's giant slalom competition, France's Nicolas Sarremejane was the victor as he posted a time of 2:14.21, which proved enough to clinch gold in front of Italy's Giacomo Pierbon, who was 0.86 seconds off the pace.

Austrian Christoph Lebelhuber came through to seal the bronze medal, ousting Frenchman David Pelettier by 0.25 seconds.

Elsewhere, Japan's star perfomer Noboru Harada topped the podium once again as he claimed his second gold of this year's Winter Deaflympics with victory in the snowboarding parallel slalom event.

Harada, winner of the parallel giant slalom competition, beat Russia's Roman Khamitsevich in the big final, while Igor Ishatenko added another medal to the host's overall tally as he beat Raphael Petr of Austria to bronze.

Women's parallel giant slalom silver medallist Cecilia Emma Hanhikoski of Finland finally got her hands on gold as she took the parallel slalom honours by proving too strong for Russia's Maria Kapustkina in the big final.

There was yet more success for Russia as Anna Surmilina won bronze thanks to a win over America's Nixo Diann Lanning.

Elsewhere on a packed day of action, host nation Russia sealed a semi-final berth in the men's curling competition as they ousted Japan 7-6 in a tight play-off contest after the two sides finished the round-robin stage on identical records.

They will go on to face China, the dominant force of the event so far, in the last four after the Chinese side maintained their 100 per cent group stage record with a narrow 7-6 victory against the United States.

The other semi-final sees Canada, who beat Hungary 6-2 in their final round-robin encounter, play Switzerland.

The Swiss also wrapped up their preliminary campaign with a win as they consigned Japan to a play-off by virtue of a 10-9 success in what was a fascinating contest.

The Winter Deaflympics continues tomorrow with the completion of the ice hockey group phase, and gold medals will be decided in the women's 10 kilometres mass start alpine skiing event as well as the men's 15km mass start.

Curling also forms part of the schedule on the penultimate day with the women's and men's semi-finals.
