Just days after carrying the Glasgow 2014 Queen's Baton to the top of Mount Snowdon in his native Wales, Davies smashed South African Fanie Lombaard's 12-year-old men's F42 discus record by 83 centimetres at the Grand Prix meeting in Grosseto last weekend.

The London 2012 champion recorded an effort of 48.69 metres to take the win in Italy.

Meanwhile, Vervoort returned to action in Nottwil after four months in hospital following a racing crash at last year's World Championships in Lyon, to clock a world best time of 14min 47.55sec in the women's T52 5,000 metres.

The Belgian Paralympic gold medallist also shaved 2.36 off Swiss Ursina Greuter's European record in the T52 800m clocking a time of 2:25.23.

The pair are joined by three other nominees.

Home favourite Yui Kamiji became the first female Japanese wheelchair tennis player to top the International Tennis Federation world rankings after recording a 6-2, 6-4 win over The Netherlands' Jiske Griffioen in Iizuka last month.

The 20 year-old's fourth career Super Series title win saw her knock Germany's Sabine Ellerbrock off the number one perch.

Double Paralympic champion Dariusz Pender of Poland returned to form with victory at the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation Wheelchair Fencing Grand Prix in Montreal.

The Pole regained his world number one status after recording his first tournament win since July 2013 in the men's category A competition.

Montreal also hosted the Boccia International Sports Federation World Open last month, which saw home favourite Marco Dispaltro overcome Brazil's two-time Paralympic champion Dirceu Pinto via a golden point in the BC4 competition.

The nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees and International Federations.

Voting is now open to the public until noon Central European Summer Time on June 10 and votes can be cast by clicking here.
