The University of Bath staged the ParalympicsGB preparation camps in the lead up to London 2012September 10 - The British Paralympic preparation camps for Rio 2016 will take place at the University of Bath in 2014, it was announced today.

The University, which also hosted the team ahead of London 2012, will hold the two events in January and August next year that will see more than 200 athletes from 18 sports being based at the campus as they prepare for the Summer Games in the Brazilian city.

Bath was chosen as the venue of the camps ahead of rivals Loughborough and Surrey and vice-chancellor Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell said the University was "proud" to have been selected to host the team once more.

"Our staff are passionate about the part they can play in the on-going success of the British team and we welcome the extended partnership where we can look at ways of further supporting the British Paralympic Association (BPA) through research and other developments as well as offering our world-class training environment," she added.

As part of the partnership the university's Sports Training Village has now been officially named as "A national Performance Partner of ParalympicsGB".

BPA director of sport Penny Briscoe explained that she is delighted to see the team returning to the University of Bath for the preparation camps.

"World class facilities, high quality accommodation and catering and a staff team committed to creating the optimal multisport preparation environment are the basis for this important performance partnership which will ultimately support ParalympicsGB ambition to be best prepared for Rio 2016," she said.

"With a track record of success from the 2012 cycle we hope that the camps delivered in 2014 will give aspiring next generation Paralympians a real taste of multi sport preparation and these experiences will help those selected to 'thrive in the Games environment' in 2016 and beyond."

The Rio Paralympic Games will take place on September 7-18, 2016.
