A special City Wall Run was held in Nanjing today to celebrate just 30 days to go until the start of the 2014 Youth Olympic Games Najing 2014Nanjing today celebrated just 30 days to go until the start of the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games with a special running event around the Nanjing City Wall.

The "35 kilometre City Wall Run" saw more than 10,000 participants travel across what is one of the longest city walls in the world.

The event began with Nanjing 2014 mascot NanjingLeLe and a group of young athletes hanging the Olympic flag on the city wall before participants set out from the Shen-Ce Men, a City Gates built during the Ming Dynasty, and ran through the other 19 City Gates to show their anticipation and enthusiasm for the approaching Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games.

With just 30 days to go until the start of the Games, the milestone day also saw organisers reveal the Nanjing 2014 volunteer team with around 18,000 official volunteers selected from a pool of more than 103,000 applicants.

The volunteers are divided between preparation, Games-times and city volunteers with the former set to assist the planning and organising of the Games, the Games-times volunteers due to work inside the venues and stadiums and the city volunteers stationed across Nanjing to provide visitors with information and assistance during the Games.

Nanjing 2014 organisers also used the day to highlight the "green" Youth Olympic Village which has been constructed to be environmentally friendly and sustainable.

The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games will see more than 3,800 athletes aged between 15 and 18 compete across 28 sports from August 16 until 28.
