Almaty 2022 has launched its website, which it says will "open a window to the world" ©Almaty 2022Almaty 2022 has launched its website which will "open a window to the world ", just days before the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decides which cities bidding for the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games will go through to the candidate phase of the process.

Described as a "technical website", it features sections on the city, bid, venues, ambassadors and partners, as Almaty 2022 chiefs crank up their bid to stage the Games.

The Kazakhstani city, seen as a frontrunner in the 2022 race, is competing with Oslo's capital Norway and Beijing in China.

Lviv dropped its bid on Monday amid ongoing political unrest in Ukraine, while Kraków's bid was snuffed out when residents in the Polish city voted against it in a referendum in May.

Almaty 2022's website launch was heralded at a celebration attended by Timur Dossymbetov, secretary general of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

"Launching this website is something special," he said.

"It´s the next step on our journey - to open a window to the world and a window for the world to find out more about Almaty, Kazakhstan and our tradition in winter sport.

"We are a young country but our winter sports tradition has already a long tradition certainly comparable to most winter sport countries in the world.

"But Almaty is like a flower, it´s opening its blossoms one by one."

He added: "We try to develop things step by step.

"Several World Cups in Olympic disciplines, then the Asian Winter Games in 2011 and now trying to get the greatest honour, to host the Olympic Winter Games and Paralympics 2022 as the peak of this long-term development plan."

The IOC Executive Board meet in Lausanne, Switzerland on Monday (July 7) where the decision will be made on which cities are put forward to the Candidature phase of the contest.

It is possible all three cities still in the race will be put through.

Visits to the cities will then be carried out by the IOC Evaluation Commission, before a final decision is made at the IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 31 2015.

Almaty's Mayor Akhmetzhan Yessimov said: "It´s an honour for us to be on the world´s stage now, but also a duty.

"Still we are not a Candidate City.

"But so far we tried our best to show the Olympic Movement that they would have a trusted and experienced partner but still willing to learn and improve.

"That may get us into to final in Kuala Lumpur in July 2015, hopefully.

"If so, Almaty will be ready in 2022.

"Already a vibrant and young city with a great passion for sports, the current developments on the way in environmental projects, transport upgrades and tourism development would make us able to host the Games in 2022."
