Sochi 2014_volunteers_with_2_years_to_goFebruary 22 - Sochi 2014 organisers have revealed that their fledgling volunteer recruitment drive, launched earlier this month, has already attracted 100 overseas applications from Canada.

So far, there have been 35,000 applications, mainly from the 17 to 22 age group and from the nearby Krasnodar region.

Of applications that have come from overseas, Canada – who hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Vancouver – lead the count with 100 offers receieved so far.

The most popular roles applied for at the Games are in translation, with over 2,000 potential volunteers offering their services.

Though more than 7,000 youngsters have applied to volunteer, one 95-year-old has also put themselves forward to help out in 2014.

Organisers are looking for 25,000 suitable candidates to volunteer during the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

There will be 26 volunteer centres set up across Russia as Sochi 2014 organisers hope to spur a domestic boom in volunteering through the Olympics and Paralympics.
