In a statement, they revealed Zalewski tested positive for a banned stimulant in a test taken on February 23.

This came shortly after the completion of the four man competition in which the 22-year-old's Polish team finished 27th.

The Polish body said it was informed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Friday (March 14) that Zalewski's A' and B' samples both showed traces of the banned stimulant phenethylamine.

The PKOl are appealing the case before the World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) and the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (FIBT) but it appears likely that the Polish team will be removed from the results.

Zalewski is the seventh athlete overall to be confirmed as having failed a test during the Games, with each from a different European country and spread across four different sports. 

German biathlete Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle was the first to test positive, followed by Italian bobsledder Frullani, Ukrainian cross-country skier Marina Lisogor, Latvian ice hockey player Vitalijs Pavlovs and Austrian cross-country skier Johannes Duerr.
