The scheme, which forms part of Samsung's attempt to make Sochi 2014 the most "wireless, innovative and technologically advanced" Olympic and Paralympic Games ever, will see each athlete offer "insights into their lives" as they document their journey to the start line.

It is hoped this will encourage the British public to invoke the "same spirit of pride and excitement" in the Winter Games as was seen during London 2012.

As well as Rudman, who will be seeking to improve upon her Turin 2006 silver medal in Sochi after finishing third in this season's World Cup standings, various other top British medal contenders have also been named.

These include curler Eve Muirhead, who skippered Scotland to World Championship victory last year, as well as the European champion short-track speed skater Elise Christie.

Also selected is the slopestyle snowboarder Billy Morgan, as well as one of the world's leading freestyle skiers James Woods, along with the Paralympic alpine skiing contender Kelly Gallagher and guide Charlotte Evans.

Gallagher, who will feature in the visually impaired events, will be hoping to improve upon fourth place at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Games.

The seven athletes join the largest-ever international Samsung Galaxy Team - encompassing 80 athletes from 20 countries - who will hope to inspire a new generation of talent to pursue their sporting dreams.

With Samsung the Official Smartphone Partner of Sochi 2014, each athlete will be using their very own Samsung Galaxy Note 3 while exclusive interviews and posts will also be available on the Samsung Facebook page.
