Denis Masseglia has revealed that a feasibility study is due to be launched next week into whether Paris should bid again following three unsuccessful attempts to bring the Games back to the French capital for the first time since 1924.

The results of the study are due to be announced in October and, if that is positive, the CNOSF plan to launch a campaign to ensure the public support it.

"Fall 2014 will mark an important appointment as it will mark the publication of the result of the study in which 14 working groups have mobilised to determine whether it is appropriate or not to embark on a new adventure Olympic," said Masseglia, who is here attending the 35th European Olympic Committees Seminar, which is due to start tomorrow. 

"If the study is positive, the period from October to April is devoted to communication for public support to find funding sources and define the governance of a nominating committee."

Masseglia also revealed that a final decision on whether Paris should bid or not will probably be taken in June 2015.

Cities interested in bidding are due to declare their interest to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in September 2015, shortly after the host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics is chosen on July 31 at the Session in Kuala Lumpur. 

Paris hosted the second ever Olympics in 1900 and again 24 years later, a Games immortalised in the Oscar-winning film Chariots of Fire.

But subsequent attempts by the French capital to stage the Olympics have floundered.

They were beaten in 1986 by Barcelona for the 1992 Olympics and in 2001 by Beijing for 2008.

But the most crushing defeat came in 2005 when they were hot favourites to be awarded the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics only to be pipped at the post by arch rivals London. 

France was also left badly bruised by a disastrous bid from Annecy for the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, which polled only seven votes.
