ups london_2012_12-06-12June 13 - UPS, the Official Logistics and Express Delivery Supporter of London 2012, has today revealed its plans to deliver the official ParalympicsGB team kit to over 300 athletes who will be representing Britain at the Paralympic Games.

The huge logistical operation will see UPS warehousing, packing and delivering more than 27,000 items to the athletes across the country.

The first step in the process will involve UPS warehousing all of the kit, so it can be quickly and easily picked and packed for each individual athlete, depending on their size and individual requirements.

All items will then be scanned, in order to ensure maximum stock control, before being packed into kit bags ready for delivery.

Each athlete will receive three official kit bags containing their competition and Paralympic Village wear designed by Stella McCartney for adidas, while the kit will also be transported to training venues for each Paralympic sport around the United Kingdom.

"Over the next few weeks, UPS will be delivering over 27,000 items of kit to Paralympic athletes around the country" explained British Paralympic Association (BPA) chief executive Tim Hollingsworth.

"This is a mammoth job and it is vital that all the kit arrives on time and to the right place, so it is important to be working with a company like UPS that is well versed in this kind of large scale operation."

The kit is being delivered well in advance of the Paralympic Games, which begin on August 29, so that the athletes have time to wear them and ensure they are the correct size.

A UPS Swap Van will be travelling around the country in the weeks following the main delivery carrying additional stock in order to cater to any last-minute exchanges.

"This is a hugely significant moment for any athlete on their journey to the London 2012 Games and we are excited to be playing such a vital role in making their dreams of representing their country at the Paralympic Games a reality," said Cindy Miller, the managing director for UPS in UK, Ireland and Nordics.

Over the course of the entire Games, UPS will be responsible for the delivery of approximately 30 million items, including one million pieces of sporting equipment, in what will be the most significant peacetime logistical undertaking in the world.
