Zara_Phillips_signs_with_SamsungJune 9 - Zara Phillips, the Queen's granddaughter and one of Britain's top horse riders, has joined former England captain David Beckham as a Samsung Olympic Games ambassador of the London 2012 Games, it has been announced.

The world and European gold medal winning rider will be involved in various activities across Samsung's London 2012 campaign and was chosen because, officials from the South Korean electrical giant claimed, she is a patriotic British athlete and her dedication to training for possible selection at London 2012, to compete for Team GB as a three day eventer.

Speaking at the signing, Phillips said: "I'm delighted to become an ambassador for Samsung for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

"Samsung is using its sponsorship to encourage everyone to get involved in the Olympic Games, and I'm looking forward to helping more people actively participate and be part of London 2012."

The 30-year-old Phillips, who was crowned world champion in 2006, the year she was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year,  joins Beckham, who was signed up as Samsung's global ambassador for London 2012 last month.

Her mother, the Princess Royal, the 1971 European three day eventing champion, is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Both athletes will take the spirit of the Games to a global audience and Samsung, a worldwide Olympic sponsor, will be announcing a number of initiatives creating opportunities for young people to be actively involved in London 2012.

David Song, the managing director of Samsung UK, said: "Today we've signed Zara Phillips to be Samsung's UK ambassador for the London 2012 Games, which we are very excited about.

"She is much loved by the public and an ideal spokesperson to help spread the spirit of the Olympic Games to the public.

"We send our best wishes to Zara as she aims to achieve her dream of competing at London 2012."
