London 2012_mascots_with_Tom_and_Carrie_Fletcher_singing_sonNovember 20 - London 2012 mascots Wenlock and Mandeville are hoping to make a splash in the music scene with their official song for next year's Games, "On a Rainbow," which has been written and recorded by McFly's Tom Fletcher, and its release coincides with today's milestone of 250 days until the start of the Games.

The track is available for download now, and it is the latest appearance they will have made in popular culture after starring in The Beano and having their own animated films.

"On a Rainbow" includes Fletcher's sister Carrie and also features pupils from West Leigh Junior School Choir in Southend-on-Sea.

It is based on the journey the Olympic mascots will make to the London 2012 Games and the youngsters they meet, and the McFly lead singer was inspired to create the song as a result of the animated mascot films Wenlock and Mandeville have starred in to date.

Fletcher and his sister Carrie performed the song live at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Westfield Stratford, and children in schools which are part of the Get Set Network in the UK will be learning a dance to accompany the song during the London 2012 Education Programme.

They will then be performing the dance on London 2012 World Sport Day on June 25 next year, presented by Lloyds TSB.

The latest film the mascots will appear in, "Wenlock and Mandeville's Rainbow Rescue," will be previewed at the events and shown on hundreds of screens in Odeon cinemas nationwide from November 25 to December 23.

The film will feature animated versions of a number of Olympic and Paralympic athletes, including Louis Smith, Zoe Smith, Victoria Pendleton, Shelly Woods and Tom Aggar.

his is an amazing opportunity and it's something I'm very proud to be involved in," said Fletcher.

"I wanted it to be fun for kids and a song that kids could remember and sing along to."
