wenlock_and_mandeville_out_of_a_rainbow_26-08-11August 26 - London 2012 Olympic mascot Wenlock and Paralympic mascot Mandeville are set to hit the big screen for the first time ever today as the duo's popular short films will be shown exclusively at Odeon Cinemas across the UK before selected family films, including Cars 2, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and Mr Popper's Penguins.

British children's writer Michael Morpurgo wrote the story concept and produced a short animated film called Out of a Rainbow last year, which shows how the two mascots were formed from two drops of the molten-steel that fell off the last girder for the Olympic Stadium at the steelworks in Bolton.

Adventures on a Rainbow, a sequel to Out of a Rainbow, was released earlier this year as part of an ongoing series showing what the mascots are getting up to in the run-up to London 2012.

The series has featured a number of guest appearances from Olympic athletes Phillips Idowu, Shanaze Reade and Tom Daley, as well as Paralympic athletes Ellie Simmonds and Mandip Sehmi.

The story has so far only been available to view online but now the short films, which are all under five minutes in length, will be shown at Odeon cinemas during the trailers.

"Tomorrow we hit the big screen," said an excited Mandeville on his Facebook page.

"Catch us in Odeon cinemas.

"Next stop Hollywood?!!"

The short films of the London 2012 mascots will be in the cinema from August 26 to September 29, while Mandeville will be making his next major public outing in Trafalgar Square on September 8 when International Paralympic Day takes place at the iconic London landmark.
