Olympic_Stadium_with_wrapNovember 19 - London 2012 have received several offers to sponsor the wrap around the Olympic Stadium which was dropped last month as part of the Government's spending cutbacks, it was revealed today.

Sebastian Coe, the chairman of London 2012, claimed potential sponsors had come forward since the Government and Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) announced it had shelved plans for the £7 million ($11 million) design after they were told to find £20 million ($32 million) of savings in the Comprehensive Spending Review last month.

"Since the decision was made we've had several commericial overtures - I won't say anymore than that - to sponsor the wrap," said Coe.

Absolute Radio have already launched a proposal that it be covered with 700,000 Facebook profile pictures, with their ownes paying £10 ($16) each for the privilege.

It is claimed that companies are interested in sponsoring the wrap even though they would not be able to brand it with their name or logo as the Olympic Charter bans advertising.

"I think it is very clear that all the venues must be clearn, this means no advertising at all - inside or outside," said Denis Oswald, the chairman of the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Coordination Commission, who today completed their seventh visit to London.

Oswald claimed that he was confident the Olympic Stadium would look stunning with or without the wrap.

"What is important for us we don't diminish the quality of the Games," he said.

"The wrap around the stadium is a nice thing to have but it does not affect the athletes or their preformances and therefore it is something that we can accept [it not being there].

"Of course, it would be nice to have it but I'm sure there will be other solutions to make the Stadium look very nice."
