Olympic Park construction 2April 18 - The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is exactly 100 days away from reopening on July 27, marking the one year anniversary of the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony.


July will see the official opening of the North Park, with the rest of the site to be re-opened in phases later this year and early next year as works reach completion.

The construction programme to reconfigure the site following the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games has been carried out by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), who took control of the Park last November.

The £292 million ($465 million/€360 million) construction programme is currently on schedule with the North Park featuring the Copper Box, the North Park Cafe and a community space with a new playground and open spaces for visitors.

"This time last year we were putting the finishing touches on what was to become the greatest ever Olympic and Paralympic Games," said Mayor of London and Legacy Company chairman Boris Johnson.

"Twelve months on, the long term future of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is bright, dispelling the fears of white elephants and tumbleweed.

"With a world beating summer of sport and music lined up and as new schools, homes and neighbourhoods take shape, we are on track to deliver a lasting legacy for Londoners."

The reopening of the North Park will a cultural festival titled "East" is due to be staged on July 27 and 28 to celebrate the event.

East will see the Legacy Cooperation work in partnership with arts and learning organisation the Barbican and arts venture Create London to stage a weekend of music, food, art and theatre inspired by the east of the capital.

There is also due to be be a special London Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium from July 26 to 28.

The London Anniversary Games will see International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League action on July 26 to 27 with a one-off International Paralympic Committee (IPC) International Challenge competition on July 28.

Before the opening of the North Park, the site will stage the Wireless Festival in early July.

"In just 100 days' time, exactly one year after the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games, we will welcome thousands of visitors back to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to experience what this exciting new part of London has to offer - from international rock stars and world-class athletes, to new parklands and outside spaces to walk, play and enjoy," said Legacy Company chief executive Dennis Hone.

"The work we are undertaking now will deliver a lasting legacy for decades to come and this summer is just the first part of that journey."
