Otto Bock_repairing_wheelchairFebruary 1 - German company Otto Bock have joined Sainsbury's in becoming a Paralympic-only sponsor London 2012, it was announced today.


They have signed a deal to become a Tier Three supplier and have been appointed as the official Prosthetic, Orthotic and Wheelchair Technical Services Provider for the London 2012 Paralympic Games. 

Otto Bock, who are already a worldwide partner of the International Paralympic Committee, will work with London 2012 to provide athletes competing in the Games with immediate repairs for orthoses, prosthetics and wheelchairs.

During Games-times they will set up and manage repair centres at the three Paralympic Villages: Stratford, Weymouth for the sailing and Eton Dorney for the adaptive rowing. 

They will also create and manage smaller repair centres around other competition venues and mobile units at selected competition venues.

In Beijing, approximately 4,000 athletes competed and Otto Bock technicians handled 2,188 repairs.

London 2012 Commercial Director Chris Townsend said: "The appointment of Otto Bock demonstrates our approach to staging the Games – keeping athletes at the centre of everything.

"Otto Bock brings significant experience at Paralympic Games and they will become a vital part of the team, ensuring those athletes coming to the London 2012 Paralympic Games have a magnificent experience and are able to compete at their optimum levels."
