October 11 - Britain's preparations for London 2012 have suffered a blow after it was announced that the British Paralympic Association's chief operating officer Tanya Crook is leaving to take up a high-profile new role with the British Olympic Association (BOA).

Crook has been appointed to as the BOA's new head of sport engagement team which will work under Sir Clive Woodward, who coached England's World Cup team at victory in 2003 and is now the director of sport.

The sport engagement team will act as the key point of contact between Olympic sports national governing bodies and the BOA.

They will coordinate Olympic Games requirements for the sport, including Olympic qualification standards, logistics, preparation camps and high performance services.

"There is no substitute for the experience gained during Games time and Tanya has firsthand knowledge of what it takes to prepare and lead successful British athletes from her position as deputy Chef de Mission for ParalympicsGB in Beijing 2008 and Vancouver 2010," said Sir Clive.

Crook was excited by her appointment.

"I am thrilled at the opportunity to lead the team of sport engagement managers and look forward to taking the BOA’s engagement with the national governing bodies to a new level at this exciting time for Olympic sport in the UK," she said.

The race is now on to find a replacement for Crook.

"We are of course sorry to see Tanya go to take up the challenge of head of sport engagement at the BOA, something that her time at the BPA will stand her in good stead for," Phil Lane, the chief executive of the BPA, told insideworldparasport.

"We wish her all the best in her new role and are sure she’ll bring the same amount of energy and enthusiasm to Olympic sport that she has to Paralympic sport.

"As a small organisation, we are used to recruiting quality people in the run up to a Games as we did with Tanya, who arrived with only one year to go before Beijing.

"We’ve worked hard as an executive team to have robust plans in place for London and are confident that, with two years to go, we can recruit someone outstanding to support the delivery of these plans."
