July 24 - Britain’s Paratriathletes had a successful day in the ITU Dextro Energy World Championship in Hyde Park, London.

In total the British team picked up nine medals, including three golds, five silver and a bronze over the super sprint course of 350 metres swim, 10 kilometres cycle and 2.5km run).

Faye McClelland (pictured), 30, from Lewes, added to her Tri 4 (arm impairment) victory last year by taking gold one minute ahead of Britain’s current Paratriathlon world champion Clare Cunningham.

Cunningham has Paralympic experience having won gold and four silvers as a swimmer at the 1992 Barcelona Games.

In the Tri 6 category for the visually impaired, Britain’s Iain Dawson took first place ahead of compatriot Haseeb Ahmed from Leicester.

Jane Egan took silver in the Tri 1 category ahead of Anna Turney after a strong finish in her racing wheelchair.

This is Egan’s first full season in triathlon having been selected for the British squad unexpectedly when she went to be classified as a Paratriathlete.

Steven Judge beat James Smith into second place in the Tri 3 (Les Autres) category.

Although triathlon became an Olympic sport as recently as 2000, Paratriathlon does not currently have the same status.

As reported first on insideworldparasport, here are hopes that it will be included in the programme at the 2016 Rio Paralympics but it needs to demonstrate that a minimum of 25 nations compete in the sport from at least three different continents.
