McFadden (pictured above) proved one of the standout performers of London 2012 as the Russian-born athlete stormed to three gold medals in the 400, 800 and 1,500 metres T54 finals as well as a bronze in the 100m to take her overall medal count at the Paralympics to ten.

McFadden, who was born with spina bifida, claimed the female award ahead of cyclist Muffy Davis and swimmer Kelley Becherer.

Fabry won the first United States Paralympic gold in archery since 1984 with victory over top-seeded David Drahonínský of the Czech Republic in the final.

The 39-year-old from California, who lost most of his right arm and right leg in a motorcycle accident when he was 15, dropped his bow in the second set of his individual compound W1 semi-final, causing the strings to come off and the bow to come apart.

He spent the third set retrieving his backup bow, resulting in three zero scores, but against all odds, he came back to win his spot in the gold-medal final 7-3.

He then claimed an unlikely gold in the final with his repaired primary bow as he took a 6-2 win.

Jeff Fabry has taken the USOC male Athlete of the Month prize after a stunning archery victory at the London 2012 Paralympics

Track and field stars Raymond Martin and Aries Merritt finished second and third respectively behind Fabry.

The USOC also revealed that the Team of the Month prizes has gone to the cycling mixed H1-4 team.

In the final road cycling event at the Paralympic Games, the mixed H1-4 relay team made of Muffy Davis, Oz Sanchez and Matt Updike claimed a sensational victory.

The team were leading when Davis lost the chain on her bike in one of the opening laps.

But despite a delay of more than 30 seconds, the US finished 43 seconds ahead of Italy to claim the top podium spot.

Men's wheelchair tennis quad doubles team Nick Taylor and David Wagner were second in the vote while the US baseball U18 team were third.

"Congratulations to all our award winners, who put on truly inspirational performances at the London 2012 Paralympics," said USOC chief executive Scott Blackmun.

"They did the United States proud with their display of huge courage and unbelievable athletic achievement."
