The Vladimir Potanin Foundation's scholarship programme has made 20 million rubles, (£357,000/$589,000/€434,000), available as grants for students enrolling on RIOU's Master of Sport Administration course for 2014/15.

Successful applicants will have the cost of their education on the course covered, plus a monthly scholarship for the 10 months they will be studying.

Applications for grants can only be made after RIOU's admissions board has approved the candidate for enrolment on the course.

The University, in the centre of Sochi - which will host next month's Olympics - was visited by International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach in October.

RIOU Rector, Professor Lev Belousov, said: "The financial support that the Vladimir Potanin Foundation has made available over this past year has allowed RIOU to assemble a group of international students from 14 different countries for its inaugural MSA intake.

"As a result, this year's course benefits from a wide range of perspectives as each student has brought insights from their own countries into lectures and discussions.

"I am particularly delighted that the Foundation is continuing to support RIOU as it will help to maintain this breadth of opinion and experience.

"It means that anyone, anywhere in the world, can apply to RIOU, no matter what their financial situation is.

"We are very grateful to Vladimir Potanin and his Foundation."
