Thousands of fans have already secured their seats at many sports, with there being strong demand for the gold medal competitions and the Opening Ceremony on July 10, due to feature a performance by Cirque du Soleil and the lighting of the cauldron.

"The Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games are a unique opportunity sports fans to cheer on world class athletes, but tickets are selling quickly, especially to gold-medal competitions, so get your order in now," said Saäd Rafi, chief executive of Toronto 2015.

"We're planning and staging a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of sport and the cultures of the Americas.

"Buy tickets now and start planning your trip - you don't want to miss it and we can't wait to see you here."

There are still seats available for some of the most popular sports, including football, rugby sevens, basketball, track and field, aquatics and artistic gymnastics, at next year's Games, which take to last until July 26.

Tickets are priced from CAD20 (£11/$17/€14), with 75 per cent being priced CAD45 (£25/$39/€32) or under, and there are half-price tickets are available for those under 16 years of age, or 65 and over.

Every event ticket also allows the holder to access transit on the day of the event.

Tickets for the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games, due to take place from August 7 to 15, are scheduled to go on sale in the spring.
