The Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the Government of Ontario and its mission is to build healthy and vibrant communities throughout the Province by strengthening the capacity of the voluntary sector through investments in community-based initiatives.

As part of its agreement with Toronto 2015, the foundation will donate the Games tickets it receives through the partnership to the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC) to allow community groups to attend events next year.

The ICC will distribute the tickets through its Cultural Access Pass Programme.

"We're excited by the possibilities of this partnership with the Ontario Trillium Foundation to help us bring the spirit and legacy of the Games to communities in all corners of Ontario, as well as to new Canadian citizens," said Toronto 2015 chief executive Saäd Rafi.

"The Games are a unique cultural and sporting event that provide a wonderful once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to embrace, engage and reflect the jubilation, spirit and welcoming nature of all Canadians and our international guests."

The Ontario Trillium Foundation annually awards around 1,300 grants to community-based not-for-profit and charitable organisations in the arts, recreation, environment and human and social services sectors.

Founded in 1982, the foundation is recognised for its in-depth knowledge of local communities across Ontario and allocates over CAD$100 million (£55 million/$89 million/€69 million) annually.

Commenting on the agreement, ICC executive director and chief executive Gillian Smith said: "Our organisation is dedicated to accelerating new citizens' integration into Canadian life.

"We're grateful for the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation in helping bring the excitement of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games to the new citizen members of our Culture Access Pass."

Organisers of the Games say they expect over 250,000 spectators, media, dignitaries and officials to descend on the Ontario region next summer.

The Toronto 2015 Pan American Games are due to take place from July 10 to 26, while the Parapan American Games are scheduled for August 7 to 15.
