Colin Gibson has joined Baku 2015 as the deputy director of communications ©Baku 2015Baku 2015 has appointed the English Football Association's former director of communications Colin Gibson to a key role as the final countdown to the first-ever European Games gathers pace.


Gibson, a former sports editor with The Sunday Telegraph and The Daily Mail, will join as deputy director of communications. 

The Briton recently left the England and Wales Cricket Board, where he was director of media and communications.

He had a similar role at the International Cricket Council in Dubai.

"I am very grateful for the opportunity to work at the first-ever European Games in such a vibrant city as Baku," said Gibson, who will work alongside William Louis-Marie, the Baku 2015 director of communications.  

"The inaugural edition of the Games marks the start of a new chapter in Europe's sporting history, and to be here at the beginning of that adventure is extremely exciting."

Among the projects that Gibson will work on are the 100 Days to Go milestone on March 4, ticketing launch, and the Baku 2015 Torch Relay ahead of the Opening Ceremony of the Games, due to be held between June 12 and 28. 

"I am delighted that Colin has agreed to join the Baku 2015 team," said Simon Clegg, chief operating officer of Baku 2015. 

"To have someone with his experience and ability to bolster our communications team as we move into a critical period in the delivery of the inaugural European Games here in Baku will prove invaluable."
