Clint Flood, the manager of operations for next year's Games, said he and his colleagues had been closely watching on television the action in Scotland, which came to a close yesterday, to learn what it takes behind the scenes to host a sporting event of that scale.

"It is the attention to detail that separates a good Games from a great Games," he said.

"Our team is now moving into the detailed phase of our planning, and lessons learned from events like Glasgow 2014 will help us to ensure that the 2015 Pacific Games are great."

The Port Moresby 2015 team have been focusing on details, such as how Glasgow 2014 moved equipment around on the field of play, how it made sure anthems, flags and medals were prepared for the medal ceremonies, and how it managed athletes and photojournalists.

In addition, they examined the role of the volunteers, including how they handled the athletes' kits before and after events.

Two Port Moresby 2015 officials also travelled to Glasgow to observe the Commonwealth Games first-hand and returned with information about the organisation of the event, as well as stories of the Scottish city's hospitality and people.

"It is this spirit that Papua New Guinea and Port Moresby will recreate and make unique in July 2015, and make sure our guests leave Papua New Guinea with huge smiles on their faces," Flood said.

He also praised the performance of the nation's team in Glasgow, with weightlifters Steven Kukuna Kari and Dika Toua claiming gold in the men's 94kg class and women's 53kg competition, respectively.

"The two gold medals that were awarded to Papua New Guinea represent a journey not just for these two athletes, but all the team who put in their best efforts in achieving a dream to compete at the Commonwealth Games," Flood added.

"We are sure that the work we are putting on to deliver a great Games on behalf of all countries next year at the Pacific Games will be showcased by the full venues and people crowded around their television screens around this country cheering on winning performances of team Papua New Guinea."

Port Moresby will host next year's Pacific Games from July 4 to 18.
