Hans den_OudendammerApril11April 2 - SportAccord has announced that the 2012 City Forum, taking place during their annual Convention in Québec City, Canada, in May, will focus on how sports events can drive economic and social development.

The City Forum will offer two interactive panel events: "Taking It to the Streets – City Activation" and "Who Pays For What?".

The former will explore how sport events can promote tourism and a healthy lifestyle, while "Who Pays For What?" will consider the role of cities in financing sport events.

Hans den Oudendammer (pictured), the chief executive of Rotterdam Topsport foundation, University of Colorado Denver chancellor Don Elliman and Gerrit Middag, the commercial and events director of the International Cycling Union, will all speak at the City Forum.

They will be joined by Jon Tibbs, the chief executive and founder of Jon Tibbs Associates, and Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games vice-president of sponsorship sales and marketing, Andrea Shaw.

The City Forum takes place on May 22 at the Québec City Convention Centre, where the SportAccord Convention is being held from May 20 until 25.

The City Forum will also focus on the FIFA Women's World Cup and will include representatives involved with last year's successful tournament in Germany.

The Women's World Cup comes to Canada in 2015, and representatives involved with the organisation of that competition will also be in attendance.

Other confirmed representatives participating at the City Forum next month are PricewaterhouseCoopers managing director Ron Bidulka and Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development major events manager Jennah Wootten.

The moderator will be David Eades, the presenter of BBC World television and Don Schumacher, the executive director of the National Association of Sports Commissions.

SportAccord, which was held in London last year, brings together some of the leading figures in the world of sport, including representatives from the organising committees of the biggest events on the globe, including the Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games.
