The history of the Asian Games dates back to New Delhi in 1951 and they have been held every four years since.
The Opening Ceremony takes place on August 18 in Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta but the Asian Games, who have been supported by many sponsors and partners and around 13,000 volunteers, will be spread over four main venue clusters in Jakarta and Palembang.
A total of 45 nations are participating in 47 sports and disciplines, including core sports such as athletics, gymnastics and triathlon, but also feature disciplines which reflect the diverse sporting culture of Asia, such as kabaddl and kurash, which is due to make its debut along with the mind game bridge.
Indonesia’s diversity is also reflected in their choice of mascots Bhin Bhin, Kaka and Atung the trio, which were chosen by the Indonesian President Joko Widodo following a competition.
