June 4 - Fresh from last week's triumph, Liam Heath and Jonathan Schofield grabbed another canoe sprint World Cup gold today on a successful day for Britain in in Duisburg in a competition where Olympic champion Tim Brabants (pictured) is due to continue his comeback.

 

The pair had taken first place in the second World Cup event last weekend and again triumphed in the men's K2 200 metres event on on the first day of racing at the third competition of the season.

 

They stormed straight to the top of their semi-final and then took gold in a time of 32.873sec, over half a second ahead of Belarusian duo Raman Piatrushenka and Vadzim Makhneu.

 

Their success was added to by Ed McKeever, who won a bronze medal in the men's K1 200m, finishing fourth-tenths of a second behind German Ronald Rauhe.

 

Rachel Cawthorn won bronze in the women's K1 event, where she finished less than a second behind German Nicole Reinhardt.

 

Tomorrow, Brabants competes in the men's K1 1,000m distance and also the men's K1 500m event on Sunday.

 

Last weekend Brabants, who had been focusing on his medical career since winning the Olympic gold medal in Beijing two years ago, made a remarkable comeback to the sport and achieved seventh place in the K1 after only being back in full-time training since February.
