March 18 - Usain Bolt (pictured) will wait until after he has tried to defend his three Olympic titles at London in 2012 before he moves up to 400 metres and tries to attack Michael Johnson's world record, he has revealed.

The Jamaican plans to compete over 300m at the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava on May 27 but insists it is not the first step in a move up to the full one-lap distance.

He said: "I think the 400m is somewhere in the future but hopefully after 2012."

Bolt is widely tipped to break Johnson's 11-year-old record for the 400m of 43.18sec following his world record performances over 100m and 200m.

Bolt said: "The 400m is painful."

His main target at the moment is defending the Olympic 100m and 200m titles he won at Beijing in 2008 and also helping Jamaica retain their 4x100m title.

Bolt, who will also appear at the IAAF Diamond League meetings in New York on June 12 and Paris on July 16, revealed his preparations for the summer are progressing satisfactorily.

He said: "Training is going well.

"I am getting ready for the summer season.

"My early races in Jamaica have been good so I think I am where I need to be at this time of year.

"There is still a lot of work to be done in the next two months but I am getting there..

"I just want to keep winning and stay injury free."
