alt CRAIG GORDON (pictured) today became the first top Scottish player to support the concept of a united British football team for the 2012 Olympics.

The Sunderland goalkeeper told The Herald in Glasgow that he did not see why Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland should join together to give Britain's footballers representation in the Olympics for the first time since 1960.

"I don't see any reason why not," Gordon told the newspaper in an interview published today.

The Scottish Football Association, along with their counterparts in Wales, are opposed to the idea because of fears that it will jeopardise their independent participation in events like the World Cup and European Championships.

"There are difficulties with the different football associations in Britain, but I don't see any reason why that can't be overcome," said Gordon.

"The team would be dominated by English players, but there would be a few others in there. It would be a good team."
