Diamond League_-_Kenenisa_Bekele_April_2April 2 - Kenenisa Bekele, who will seek to retain his Olympic 5,000 and 10,000 metres titles at London 2012 this summer, has been named as one of the marquee names for the season's opening Diamond League meeting in Doha on May 11.

Bekele (pictured top) has amassed 16 world titles on the track or over cross-country and returned to something like his best form in the final Diamond League meeting of last season in Brussels where, less than three weeks after failing to finish while defending his world 10,000m title in Daegu, he set a 2011 world's best time of 26min 43.16sec.

The Ethiopian, who also won the 10,000m at the Athens Olympics in 2004, will be joined in the Qatar capital by Kenya's world 5,000 and 10,000m champion, Vivian Cheruiyot, and compatriot Genzebe Dibaba (pictured below), who earned her first senior world title when she won the 1500m at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul last month.

Also on the card for Doha will be Kenya's Pamela Jelimo, the 2008 Olympic 800m champion, who signalled a full comeback from injury by taking the 800m gold in Turkey, and double world indoor 800m champion Abubaker Kaki of Sudan, who claimed silver at the same championships.

Kaki will face Kenya's Alfred Kirwa Yego, the 2007 world champion, and Moroccan 800m record holder Amine Laâlou.

The names were announced at a press conference in Doha attended by Meeting Director Abdulla Al-Zaini, Deputy Director of Support Services Adel Al-Baker, Deputy Director of Sport Eissa Al-Harami, Athletes Consultant Sandro Giovanelli and Media Director Fahad Al-Hajri.
