Taipie universiadeDecember 28 - Taiwan is expected to receive a significant economical boost by staging the 2017 Summer Universiade according to the Deputy Taipie Mayor, Chen Hsiung-wen.

"The event is expected to deliver a sustained stimulus worth a total of NT$5 billion to NT$10 billion to the local economy during its two-week span," Chen said.

Six new venues are under construction in Taiwan's bid to be ready for the November 2017 event while New Taipei City is currently receiving assistance in its attempt to prepare the athletes' village in Linkou District.

There is also a hope that in hosting the Universiade, or World University Games, following Taiwan's World Games and Deaflympics in 2009, the country may benefit by joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Taiwan's successful bid to host the 2017 Universiade was the fifth occasion they have bid to host the tournament.
