Sebastian Coe_and_Hannah_England_at_London_2012_Olympic_StadiumNovember 9 - Guaranteeing the use of the Olympics stadium for athletics for the next 99 years has strengthened London's campaign for the 2017 World Championships, according to the bid President, Sebastian Coe.

After the UK Athletics chairman, Ed Warner, confirmed that the Stadium could be used in any potential 2017 World Championships and future events thereafter, Coe admitted the news was a boost while also agreeing with Warner's view that it would be a better facility by the time of the event.

London is currently bidding against Doha, with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Council due to vote on who should host the event at its meeting in Monte Carlo on Friday (November 11).

"I'm focusing on the fact that we have a national stadium, that the British Government and the Mayor have invested on the infastructure in a way that you'd be hard pushed to say that any Government or any city has done," said Coe.

"I'm delighted we have a world class national stadium to put before my [IAAF] Council colleagues tomorrow, and one that's guaranteed for track and field.

"The warm-up track will be moved slightly closer to the stadium, so that again will benefit the athletes, and the Stadium will be reduced from 80,000 to roughly 60,000 and, in that process, everyone sitting in the Stadium will have roof cover.

"For those two points, that's better for spectators and better for athletes."
