London 2012 revealed the posters, designed by 12 of the UK's top artists, here at Tate Britain this afternoon, and they will form a free exhibition as part of the London 2012 Festival next summer.

The images will also be used as part of the campaign to promote the Games, and they are described as a celebration of the meeting of art and sport over the last 100 years.

The Olympic posters were designed by Martin Creed, Anthea Hamilton, Howard Hodgkin, Chris Ofili, Bridget Riley and Rachel Whiteread, while Fiona Banner, Michael Craig-Martin, Tracey Emin, Gary Hume, Sarah Morris, and Bob and Roberta Smith created the Paralympic posters.

Designs include the Olympic rings in white on a light blue background above a diver, a sprinter in a vase motif, and a pattern of overlapping Olympic rings in the Olympic colours.


Controversial artist Emin wrote, "you inspire me with your determination And I Love You" above a picture of two birds.

Tate director Nicholas Serota said: "We are delighted that British artists have produced such compelling images in response to the Olympic and Paralympic Games."

Posters are available to be bought for £7 each from the London 2012 website.
