Paula_Findlay_wins_ITU_in_Kitzbhel_June_19_2011June 19 - Canada's Paula Findlay claimed her third consecutive win in the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series today in Kitzbuhel, with Britain's Helen Jenkins finishing second to add a silver to the gold her team-mate Alistair Brownlee had won the previous day.

Findlay, a winner in Madrid a fortnight earlier when she had also beaten Jenkins and in Sydney in April, moved clear of the former world champion in the final stages of the run after the pair had broken clear to claim a record fifth World Championship series win.

"It was a hard race," said Findlay.

"I have so much respect for Helen, she pushed the whole last lap and I wasn't sure I could stay with her."

Earlier, Jenkins had tracked the leader Sarah Haskins, of the United States, in the swim and the pair had carried their advantage through to the bike ride before being caught in weather that ranged from sunshine to rain and hailstones.

But Jenkins kept in touch with the lead until the Canadian finally pulled ahead in the last few metres, just as she had done in Madrid.

"I'm happy with second," Jenkins said.

"I wish we'd sat up and waited [one the bike] now but it is racing and you have to give it a go.

"I'd given everything by the end and from Madrid I knew I couldn't beat her over the last 400 metres, so from 700 metres I really pushed on.

"I knew Paula was suffering but she was strong at the end.

"I risked it a lot on the bike today by going out with Sarah [Haskins].

"I knew she was a strong rider and you've got to try when you're in that position; maybe next time."

Jenkins (pictured) will not race the European Championships Pontevedra in Spain next weekend.

"I'll probably miss Hamburg and just train for Hyde Park, that's our Olympic selection, so I'll do a good training block before that," she added.

"It's Olympic selection and everyone wants to be on top form for that, a lot of countries want to be on top form, but all you can do on the day is your best and that's the best thing to focus on."

The next round of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series takes place in Hamburg July 16-17 before moving to Hyde Park on August 6-7.
