brighton_marathon_picMay 28 - Under a week is left for competitors wanting to race in the 2012 Brighton Marathon, which takes place on Sunday April 15.

The ballot for those wishing to compete at the event closes at 5pm next Tuesday (May 31).

The successful candidates will be notified the following day, and have until Friday June 17 to accept the place and complete their registration, and those places which are not taken up will be re-allocated in a second draw.

Those attending the Brighton Marathon Running and Lifestyle Exhibition last month and general entrants for this year's event have already had first refusal on places for next year.

Charities were prompt in taking up their places in the race, with 300 set to be involved in 2012, an increase from 230 this year.

An additional 15,000 places were then available for general entry.
