altMarch 14 - Sega have announced an exclusive partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to develop Vancouver 2010, the official video game of next year's Winter Games.

The deal was brokered by International Sports Multimedia (ISM), the official licensee of the IOC.

The game is being developed by Eurocom Entertainment Software for PC, theXbox 360 video game and entertainment system, and the PlayStation3 computer entertainment system.

The designers claim that "Vancouver 2010 is an authentic simulation of a host of events from the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, focusing on the adrenalin rush that comes from the extreme speed of winter sports. Including the all new challenge mode, it will allow players to immerse themselves in the world’s greatest sporting event like never before."

Hugh Binns, the director of Eurocom Development, who are designing the game, said: "Vancouver 2010 will set a new standard for the Olympic-themed video games genre.

"With the innovative first person mode to immerse players even more in the game, an all new challenge mode providing hours of entertainment and stunning high definition graphics, Vancouver 2010 will be a fantastic experience and truly allow gamers to experience the 'Olympic Spirit'."

The game is set for release in the winter of 2010.

Sega also developed Beijing 2008, which features 32 national teams and 38 events, and was released last June.

The game has received a mixed reception from the gaming media.

Gamesport gave the game only a 3.0 out of 10, stating that "rapidly pushing buttons is not fun" but 1up gave the game an "A ".

Raymond Goldsmith, the chairman and chief executive of ISM, said: "Extending our relationship with Sega to include the Official Video Game of Vancouver 2010 strengthens the opportunity to build upon the success of Beijing 2008, thereby delivering what will be an outstanding, quality gaming experience."

Further information relating to the content of the game will be available over the coming months from the official website of the game at www.olympicvideogames.com.
