Rebecca_Adlington_Jan_4January 5 - Swimmer Rebecca Adlington has been named the British Olympic Association's (BOA) Athlete of the Year for aquatics.

The double Olympic gold medal winner, who is sponsored by Speedo, said: "I'm proud and honoured to have won this award in 2010, given the achievements of so many British swimmers at both the European Championships and Commonwealth Games.

"I can't wait to test myself against the best in the world in 2011, as I continue to prepare for London 2012."

Dave Newbury, Speedo UK sports marketing manager, said: "We congratulate Rebecca on such a successful year and are delighted she is continuing to perform strongly as we look forward to 2012.

"Rebecca is a great role model for swimming in terms of her dedication and professionalism and is a great brand ambassador for Speedo.

"We're really excited by her prospects in what will be a really hectic 2011."

The award is made on an annual basis by the BOA for the top performing athlete in each sport category.
