Jama_AdenDecember 19 - Jama Aden (pictured), the distinguished running coach who chose Qatar over Britain last year, who guides the career of  Sudan's double world indoor 800 metres champion Abukaker Kaki and is now working with the Qatar team, has won the award as this year's best coach in the Arab sporting world.

Aden won the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Sports Excellence for the performances of Qatar's youth champions in various international championships and for his supervision of Kaki, who set a national record of 1min 42.23sec in June.

There were 132 applicants for the prize from 16 Arab nations.

The award, which bears the name of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, vice-president of the United Arab Emirates and Governor of Dubai, was launched last year to recognise sports personalities who proved excellence in the sports world locally and regionally.

Under Aden's direction, Hamza Driouch, a 16-year-old Qatari, earned silver in the Singapore Youth Olympics, while Mohamed Al-Garni got a bronze in the IAAF World Junior Championships 1500m.
