Canada's swimming team is set to take part in a training camp from July 13 to 22 before next year's Olympic Games begins in Paris four days later.

The camp is due to be held at Caen's Eugène Maës Nautical Stadium in Normandy.

In addition to finetuning technique, it is hoped that simply being in France before the Games will help athletes to adjust to the six-hour time difference in time for competition.

The training base is among the official venues endorsed by Paris 2024.

The modern facility, inaugurated in September 2017, has been completely renovated.

It now has a 50 metre outdoor Olympic pool and a 25m indoor pool that can be used as a warm-up or cool-down area.

Its meeting room and its doping control storage areas make the facility a suitable venue for Olympic and Paralympic preparation.

Canada have a number of potential medal contenders due to compete in the French capital next year.

Summer McIntosh has experienced a rapid rise to become one of the best in the world in the women's middle-distance freestyle, butterfly, and individual medley events.

The 16-year-old won 200-metres butterfly and 400m medley gold at last year's World Championships in Budapest before taking six Commonwealth Games medals at Birmingham 2022, including two golds.

Josh Liendo has also emerged as a threat to the best sprinters and butterfly swimmers in the world.

Tokyo 2020 champion Maggie MacNeil is also likely to return to defend her 100m butterfly title, while Taylor Ruck and Kylie Masse will look to make an impact at the individual and relay events.

At the postponed Games in Japan, the Canadian women claimed one gold, three silver, and two bronze medals while the men won nothing.

This put the country seventh in the overall swimming standings while neighbours the United States topped the table with 11 golds, 10 silvers, and nine bronze.

The US Olympic team has chosen a camp closer to the Paris La Défense Arena, where swimming events are set to take place at next year's Games from July 27 to August 4.

They are set to be based at the Val d'Oise High Performance Center, although the training site has not yet been announced.

In order to represent Canada, athletes will have to place either first or second at the trials while also recording an Olympic qualifying standard time.
