A total of 38 athletes have qualified for this year's Pan American Games at the Pan American Road Cycling Championships in Panama City, and the line-up for mountain biking is nearly complete.

Canada's Pier-André Côté won the men's road race in Panama's capital, with Germán Nicolás Tivani Pérez of Argentina and another Canadian in Charles-Étienne Chrétien completing the podium.

All three secured places at Santiago 2023, along with Uruguay's Antonio Eric Fagundez Lima and Roderyck Asconeguy Diaz, Ecuador's Bayron Patricio Guama De La Cruz, Brazil's Nícolas Sessler and Cristian Egídio da Rosa, Costa Rica's Daniel Badilla Navarro and Pablo Mudarra Segura, Guatemala's Dorian Monterroso, Venezuela's Eduin Becerra and Bermuda's Conor White.

Costa Rica's Junior Pan American Games champion Gabriel Francisco Rojas Campos has also qualified, along with two athletes from hosts Chile and one from Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.

In the men's time trial, Walter Alejandro Vargas Alzate and Miguel Ángel López Moreno led a Colombian one-two at the Pan American Championships, but the country's place at Santiago 2023 was already taken by Junior Pan American Games gold medallist Victor Alejandro Ocampo Giraldo.

He is set to be joined by a Chilean along with Pan American Championships bronze medallist Kaden Hopkins of Bermuda, Uruguay's Antonio Eric Fagúndez Lima, Panama's Franklin Archibold, Argentina's Juan Pablo Dotti and Ecuador's Jimmy Santiago Montenegro Narváez.

In the women's road race in Panama, Skylar Schneider of the United States triumphed to qualify along with silver medallist Alison Jackson of Canada and bronze medallist Catalina Anais Soto Campos of Chile.

Junior Pan American Games champion Lina Marcela Hernández of Colombia is set to be joined by compatriots Andrea Alzate Gomez after she finished fourth at the Pan American Championships and Diana Carolina Peñuela Martínez who placed sixth.


Ana Vitória Magalhães and Talita da Luz of Brazil, Mexico's Andrea Ramírez Fregoso, Milagro Mena Solano of Costa Rica, Cuba's Claudia Baro Arango, Uruguay's Mariana García Britos, Flor Espiritusanto Estevez of the Dominican Republic, Argentina's Sofia Martelli and Ecuador's Esther Galarza Muñoz also qualified.

An athlete from Costa Rica and Cuba is additionally eligible to compete.

Amber Neben of the US won the women's time trial in Panama to reach Santiago 2023, along with third-placed Jackson.

Paraguay's Agua Marina Espínola Salinas, Trinidad and Tobago's two-time Pan American Games silver medallist Teniel Campbell, Peñuela Martínez and Fregoso have qualified too, together with Cali 2021 gold medallist Lina Hernandez Gomez and a selection from Chile.

Aranza Valentina Villalón Sánchez finished second for Chile at the Pan American Championships.

Qualification places were also sealed at the Pan American Mountain Bike Championships in the Brazilian city of Congonhas.

Kate Courtney of the US and José Gerardo Ulloa of Mexico won the women's and men's races respectively to qualify.

The women's event is also set to feature three Colombian athletes including Cali 2021 champion Angie Lara Zarazo, three Brazilians, two additional Americans, two Canadians, two Costa Ricans, two Argentinians and one Guatemalan.

Men's competition is due to feature three Chilean athletes including Junior Pan American Games gold medallist Martin Vidaurre Kossmann, two Brazilians, Mexicans, Canadians, Argentinians, Colombians, Puerto Ricans and Costa Ricans and one Honduran.

An additional spot is available in each through the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador.

Road cycling at Santiago 2023 is due to be held in the town of Isla de Maipo and mountain biking at the Parque Metropolitano San Cristóbal.

The Pan American Games is set to take place from October 20 to November 5.
