Dong Adam and Nyl Yakura pulled off a stunning men’s doubles triumph as Canada swept the gold medals at the Pan Am Individual Badminton Championships in Kingston.

The Canadian duo overcame compatriots Kevin Lee and Ty Alexander Lindeman in a memorable three-game tussle between the top two seeds at the GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sport in the Jamaican capital.

After dropping the first game, Lee and Lindeman hit back to clinch the second and put themselves on the brink of victory in a thrilling decider.

Lee and Lindeman reeled off five successive points and held two match points at 20-18 only for Adam and Yakura to come from behind to complete a 21-10, 16-21, 22-20 comeback win.

It was another agonising defeat for Lindeman who had also missed out on mixed doubles gold alongside Josephine Wu.

The two all-Canadian doubles finals underlined the country’s dominance in the tournament as they picked up all five golds on offer today.

Top seeds Catherine Choi and Wu of Canada captured the women’s doubles title with a 21-14, 21-18 victory over Francesca Corbett and Allison Lee of the United States.

Uriel Francisco Canjura Artigo was attempting to become the first Pan Am champion from El Salvador as he reached the men’s singles final.

But Artiga was well beaten by Brian Yang in the gold-medal match as the top seed triumphed 21-10, 21-5.

Canada’s final gold went to women’s singles top seed Michelle Li who saw off American Beiwen Zhang 21-19, 21-9 in the final.
