Jennifer Jones and Brent Laing secured an impressive 8-4 victory over Scottish pair Bruce Mouat and Jennifer Dodds at the Gangneung Curling Centre in the South Korean city.

The Canadian duo then backed up that success by seeing off Vanessa Tonoli and Wouter Gösgens of The Netherlands 10-5.

Mouat and Dodds got Scotland’s bid for a third successive title back on track courtesy of a 7-1 thrashing of Denmark’s Jasmin Lander and Henrik Holtermann.

Australia joined Canada at the top of Group A with back-to-back wins after overcoming The Netherlands and Italy.

Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt snatched victory in the final end to edge Dutch duo Tonoli and Gösgens 7-6 before beating Italians Stefania Constantini and Sebastiano Arman 7-1.

Hosts South Korea enjoyed a home victory when Kim Ji-yoon and Jeong Byeong-jin claimed a comprehensive 11-5 win over Hungary’s Linda Joó and Lőrinc Tatár.

Kim and Jeong were unable to back that up as they slumped to an 8-5 defeat to Estonians Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill.

Action in Group B also got underway with seven-time winners Switzerland getting off their campaign off to a flying start.

Swiss pair Briar Schwaller-Hürlimann and Yannick Schwaller powered to an 11-2 hammering of Lina Opel and Michael Opel of England.

There were also wins for Martine Rønning and Mathias Brænden of Norway, Chiaki Matsumura and Yasumasa Tanida of Japan, Dilşat Yıldız and Bilal Ömer Çakır of Turkey and Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin of the United States.
