France’s Emily Harrop captured the women’s overall crown after finishing second in the final sprint race of the International Ski Mountaineering Federation World Cup season in Tromsø.

There was just one point separating Harrop and Italy’s Giulia Murada coming into the season finale in the Norwegian city.

But Murada’s hopes of victory were dashed when she failed to advance from the semi-finals.

With the title and Sprint World Cup crown sewn up, Harrop secured another podium place when she crossed the line in 2hr 38min 66sec.

It was only enough for silver as victory went to Switzerland’s Marianne Fatton who came out on top with a time of 2:35.03.

Déborah Marti of Switzerland enjoyed her best result since December 2019 when she placed third with 2:40.21 but it was compatriot Fatton’s day.

"My first victory this season, it's a big moment for me," said Fatton.

"I couldn't race last year, and to be on the top step again is perfect.

"I'm so thankful for that.

"The best way to end the season."

In the final men's race of this year's World Cup season, Switzerland’s Arno Lietha delivered his fifth victory in six sprint races this campaign to finish on a high.

Lietha emerged victorious with a time of 2:05.40 after beating Spanish sprint specialist Oriol Cardona Coll by half a ski.

Cardona Coll had to settle for silver in 2:05.67 as Switzerland’s Matteo Favre crossed in 2:10.76 for bronze.

"The final was crazy, everybody went so fast," said Lietha, who defended the Sprint World Cup crown.

"I didn't even know I could go that fast.

"Unbelievable race.

"I'm happy about how it ended, the whole season was good.

"I almost won every Sprint World Cup race, and I just missed the podium in the World Championships so I feel good about the past months."
